Kristin and Steve did a nice job of explaining the need for the Special Education millage levy. As I understand this, by offsetting the fund expenditures mandated by law, the money raised by this millage benefits all students, and all money raised will be distributed to local districts. Am I understanding this correctly?

The disparity between Muskegon and Kent/Ottawa counties is incredible. Almost as incredible as the editorial that was in the paper about per pupil funding differences between this side of the state and suburban Detroit. How one kid is worth $7000 and another is worth $12,000 is beyond me.
Yes, that is correct. ALL dollars from this millage will be distributed directly to schools and will be applied to special education costs. Local school boards will decide how to use the general education program funds that formerly funded special education. This will help ALL children succeed. Tax dollars will stay in our local schools to support our students.
