How Do I Get Podcasts?

Podcast subscriptions use a “feed” to deliver the audio files. Listeners may subscribe to feeds using “podcatching” software or subscribing via Web sites.

Three popular methods to receive podcasts are Apple’s iTunes, Odeo and Podnova. Think of them as the ABC, CBS and NBC of podcasting.

For example, here are the feeds for Inside Muskegon:

Once the podcasts are downloaded, they can be listened to on your computer or through a portable media device like an iPod. With several syndication services, like Odeo and Podnova, you do not even have to download the sometimes large MP3 files to your computer. They are streamed using a Flash player via their Web sites.

Podcasting is will revolutionize the listening experience for consumers. It also presents a great challenge and opportunities for traditional media and advertisers.

Consumers will be the ultimate winners with this new communication media.
By subscribing to podcasts you become your own station manager. You only listen to the shows you want, at a time you chose to them and where you prefer - on you computer, through your MP3 player while working out or in your car while driving.

What is a Podcast?

Not quite sure what a podcast is? Well allow us to help you out there.

Podcasting is a means of distributing audio and video programs via the Internet that lets users subscribe to a number of files, also known as "feeds", and then hear or view the material at the time that they choose. A feed is usually in the MP3 audio format.

Podcasting enables independent producers to create self-published, syndicated “radio shows”, and gives broadcast radio or television programs a new distribution method.
